Pakistani Furniture
The collection of furniture from northwestern Pakistan is more functional than ornamental and generally sturdily built. Bookcases, accent tables, personal chests, footstools and intimate low-to-floor (floor level) chairs have detailed chip carving in complex geometric patterns, some painted in bright colors with metal adornments. This furniture is handmade in the remote Swat Valley, deep in the Hindu Kush range which divides Pakistan from Central Asia. Specialty woodworkers are highly respected by village leaders for their carving prowess.
