MSI WIND Delayed Due to Battery Shortage Yet Again:

When we're usually talking about laptops and battery at the same time, more often than not, it's either a discussion of laptop bursting into flames or shipping delays due to shortage of battery packs. Thankfully, it's the latter this time around. MSI has successfully managed to delay the WIND PC for U.S. customers citing 'industry-wide battery shortage'. Oh yeah, totally music for our ears but we feel sorry for the WIND pre-orders. If it's any consolation, MSI is planning to give these soon-to-be early adopters free overnight shipping when the WIND does arrive back in stockd:

Eee PC 904 & Eee PC 905 Models
Sure, the miniature keyboard is the biggest gripe of the original Eee PC 701 laptop users. The keyboard on the Eee PC 900, although better, is still sufficiently reduced in size and can be equally annoying at times - especially for people with fat fingers. To fix this issue, ASUS is contemplating launch of new Eee PC models, the Eee PC 904 and Eee PC 905, which will continue to sport 8.9-inch form factory but adopt the keyboard generally seen on the 10.2-inch Eee PC 1000 models. In addition, the 904 and 905 series Eee PC, will be powered by Atom CPU. ASUS is yet to finalize the specs when it comes to the final battery and storage capacity on the new models.

The new Eee PC 904 and 905 sub-notebooks are expected to be priced around the same lines as the current 900 and 901 models and will eventually replace them.

We at Best TV know there is plenty of speculation regarding to the technology of plasma TVs, some true and some false. Here are a few of the most common mistakes about plasmas:

1) Plasma TVs Do Not Last Long

This is an extremely common plasma TV myth. When comparing plasma to LCD technology, they are pretty much dead even. Plasmas currently have an average lifespan of around 60,000 hours (give or take a few thousand). If you were to watch 4 hours of TV a day, the display should theoretically last over 40 years, on a medium contrast setting.

TIP: when your TV is shipped to the store or to you, it is usually set at a very high contrast level (for the showroom). So when you open your baby up and take it out, be sure to navigate to the menu and turn down the contrast ratio.

2) Plasmas Are Expensive

In some cases, such as the largest, highest resolution top-end models. Fortunately, technology has allowed the price of plasmas to dramatically lower in the past 10 years. Plasma TVs have comparable costs to LCDs, and as the screen size increases the price is actually sometimes lower than an LCD with the same screen size.

3) Plasma TVs Give Off Harmful Radiation

Best TV laughs at this claim, this is about as far off as you can get. The only trace of detectable radiation can be found up to an inch away from the screen. CRTs (the most common household TV) give off a significantly higher amount of radiation. The pixels are individually illuminated, so the radiation is kept within the specific pixel. Plasma and CRTs should pose no threat to your health – they comply with the FDA guidelines for radiation emission.

4) The Higher Resolution, the Better the Picture

Save your money. The only reason you would want to spend extra money on a TV with 1080p resolution (top-end) would be to watch Blu Ray movies or play Blu Ray games. Watching regular TV on a 1080p TV looks no different than a 720p or even a 420p (TV is generally broadcast in 420). Also, most movies are made for 720p resolution or lower.

5) Plasma TVs Leak Gas

Modern Plasma TVs in no way, shape, or form leak gas, or need to be refilled. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard that in my life. The TV’s pixels are permanently enclosed in sealed glass cells, and are filled with a harmless gas mixture. There is no way for the gas to escape, meaning it cannot leak out and does not need to be refilled by any means.

Samsung today announced the launch of its next generation DVD Players in the Indian market, including its first Blu-ray player BD-P1400. The flagship model of the new 2008 DVD range is the Samsung Pebble (DVD F1080), which is a High Definition 1080p up conversion DVD Player.

The unit is small and slim and can up convert standard 480p discs to 720 p, 1080i or 1080p. It also features multimedia file playback capability, including DivX, MP3, WMA, MPEG4 and more. It is priced at Rs 5,900.

"The introduction of newest line of DVD and Blu-ray players signals to consumers that the home viewing experience will come with a more striking look, a clearer sound, more stunning color and easier connectivity than ever before", said R. Zutshi, Dy. Managing Director, Samsung India.

The new BD-P1400 Blu-ray player also seems impressive, with all the arsenal needed for a multimedia overhaul, like HDMI 1.3 and more. It comes in at the right time, and is not too differently priced from competitors. It is priced at Rs 29,000.

In addition to the Pebble and BD-P1400, Samsung today also announced the launch of seven new DVD players here. Some of the new features that have been introduced in the 2008 DVD line up include: Best Playability, FM Tuner, Power Resume Function, USB 2.0 connection, CD ripping and 14 bit Video DAC. These players also have the cool D2RS technology, which aims and claims to play all kinds of scratched DVDs.

LG SL80 series and SL90
The LG SL80 series and SL90 series feature the new picture technology and energy saving technology that has an intelligent light sensor that adjusts the TV’s picture, brightness and contrast according to the surrounding light conditions automatically.

Both the LG SL80 series and SL90 series come with a full HD 1080 resolution unit.

The LG SL80 series comprises the conventional CCFL backlight but uses the TruMotion 240Hz processing that improves the motion picture response time and has a dynamic contrast of 150000:1.

It has a mechanical on/off switch to save the standby power consumed and complies with the Energy Start 3.0 ratings. The LG SL80 series and SL90 HDTV series measure just under 1.8 inches in its width.

LG SL90 HDTV photo

The LG SL90 series features new LED backlighting which makes it look slimmer, is less than 1.15 inches wide, and has better contrast ratio than the SL80 series.

The superiority of the LED technology allows the series to achieve a mega contrast ratio of 300000:1. The LG SL90 is also equipped with TrueMotion but has a processing unit of 120Hz.

“Consumers are looking for stylish technology that fits seamlessly into their existing home equipment, without sacrificing the advanced technology they are grown accustomed to,” said Peter Reiner, senior vice president, marketing and strategy, LG Electronics, USA, INC.

“With the SL80 and SL90 LG has combined the best of design and display technology-transforming the home entertainment from something ordinaryto something better,” he added.

The LG SL80 series will be available in the market from August 2009. As for the price, the 42-, 47-, and 55-inch screen sizes of the LG SL80 will carry a price tag of USD$1,599, $1,899 and $2,799 respectively.

The LG SL90 will be launched later in 2009, in 42 and 47 inch screen sizes. The price of these models have yet to be disclosed.

Revolutionary 3M mini projector for mobile phones

The latest mobiles give you everything from e-mail, GPS, and high-end multimedia facilities. However, watching a video on a two-three inches display isn’t that satisfactory. Therefore, how about embedding a projector into the mobile? I am serious about it. 3M has prepared a prototype for an ultra-small half-inch LED illuminated projector, especially, for mobile phones. Despite the diminutive size, it can deliver brilliant 40-inch image at VGA resolution. Other than mobile phones, this ultra-compact, LED-illuminated projector can be integrated into any personal electronic device. 3M ensures absence of speckle and presence of a high-fill factor for superior image quality. It utilizes an advanced liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS) electronic image in conjunction with proprietary 3M optics technology.

However, 3M isn’t the first one to introduce the concept. Motorola is already trying for something similar. 3M is joining hands with some leading consumer electronics companies, which may incorporate it in their products, coming in early 2008. Before that, this technology will be shown in the Advanced Display Technologies Zone at the CES

Gateway P-6860 FX laptop computer

Gateway's new P-6860 laptop is a preconfigured model in the company's FX line, which is geared toward gamers and other heavy users. It's an excellent computer to take with you on the road, provided you'll be using it to it's fullest potential; otherwise, a less powerful, less expensive model might be in order.

The core of this system features an Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 1.86GHz processor paired with a hefty 4GB of 667MHz RAM. There are faster processors out there, but this combo gives you plenty of power for multitasking and running the latest games.

You can't really handle games without great graphics capabilities, however, and the P-6860 delivers in this regard. It features the powerful Nvidia GeForce 8800M GTS graphics card, which offers 512MB of dedicated video memory.

Most impressive, however, is the P-6860's 17-inch widescreen display. Laptop gamers usually have to sacrifice screen size for portability, but this display and its 1440X900 resolution is large enough to prevent you from having to squint to take sniper shots in first-person shooters.

The P-6860's 320GB 5,400rpm hard drive gives you plenty of storage space for game installs and multimedia file storage. The onboard optical drive is a DVD writer with Labelflash technology. This drive lets you burn to CDs, DVDs, DVD-RAM disks and dual-layer DVDs, and can also imprint monochromatic labels on compatible media, providing a professional-looking alternative to markers and stickers.

Connectivity is cutting edge, thanks to integrated 802.11b/g/n wireless, gigabit Ethernet and built-in Bluetooth. The stylish black and copper-accented FX case will impress others, and its components provide function in addition to form -- the illuminated metal multimedia keys are easy to find in the dark, and the full-sized keyboard even features a number pad.

There is also a built-in 1.3-megapixel webcam atop the display that lets you create video mail and videoconference with clients. The 5-in-1 media card reader makes it easy to transfer files and photos from the flash cards in your digital camera or PDA. The P-6860 also features a wide variety of connectivity ports, including FireWire, HDMI, and USB ports as well as an ExpressCard 54 expansion slot.
