channel master 4228 long range outdoor hdtv antenna
Thinking about a killer 600 pounds gorilla – that would be the Channel Master 4228HD in the long-range outdoor HDTV antenna world – so called the EXTREMEtenna!
As the most powerful HDTV antenna ever, the Channel Master 4228HD antenna is the top one of the newest long-range outdoor CM4000 series. What it does is driving the formerly weak and unobtainable UHF stations to you screen suddenly and sharply.
And we are seeing it working reasonably well on those high-band VHF channels (above channel 6, especially channel 9-13) as well – it’s not applied to other great UHF equalizers.
The receiving range of the Channel Master 4228HD long-range outdoor HDTV antenna can be up to 60-70 miles or an amazing 100-120-mile range with a good preamp or control amp, so much better than most of the so-called “all-channel” antennas.
Of cause, to get the crystal-clear show on your TV you have to spend some efforts to get this 4228HD gorilla properly installed and functioning, rather than just plugging in some wires to a set of rabbit ears.
The first thing you need to do is to mount it outdoors. Don’t mount it inside your garage or it won’t work well. And to get the best of its performance you want to position it as high as practical and as far away to the adjacent obstructions as possible – because it’s designed sensitive to multipath interference.
The second thing to remind you is that because the 4228HD is rather heavy, so make sure you securely mounted it on roof, eave or wall and keep it in a perfect vertical shape to prevent toppling.
And you may need a rotator to help you adjust the orientation to when you are surrounded by multiple transmitters of different channels. While the situation is different if you live in a big city area like NYC or LA where all of the transmitters are in the same location.

Not everyone has a big living room to adorn it with a 42-inch LCD TV and so today we have something a little smaller and more affordable from LG. This comes from their 35FR series, which can be considered as an update to their previous LF20 series. Looking at the 32-inch models from both the series we find that they share very similar features except for the USB port present in the newer 35FR series. All seems to look good as of now, so let's see if this performs as well as it looks.

Let us just go over the basic specifications; this 32 incher supports a 1920x1080 resolution, IPS panel, 80000:1 Dynamic Contrast, 4ms response time, DivX through USB, 3x HDMI jacks and so on.

Bundle

The remote this time around is smaller and the buttons actually have a better feedback compared to the other remotes from LG. There is a distinctive click feel to it which makes it more ergonomic.

They also have 480Hz refresh rates, 10 million to 1 contrast ratios and cases under three inches thick.

All sorts of portable TVs using a new ATSC mobile broadcasting standard are appearing at the show, including budget TV maker Vizio, which just announced three "Razor" brand LED TVs going on sale toward the end of the year.
Razor sets are less than an inch thick, have 7-inch, 9-inch or 10-inch screens and range from $150 to $230.

Jan 08, 2009 – La Verne, CA - Eviant™, Inc., a designer and marketer of stylish portable and home entertainment products, will be launching its lineup of portable, widescreen LCD TVs at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (South Hall 2-25553). The line features a fashion-forward look and the same picture quality and features of larger digital sets. ‘The Sheet’ series from Eviant is engineered to ensure consumers will continue to have access to their favorite programs virtually anywhere they go after the switchover to all digital programming in February 2009.

The largest model in ‘The Sheet’ line is the foldable 19-inch model T19. The innovative docking station makes the T19 easy to store and transport, making it perfect for the office, kitchen, or den, without sacrificing quality or breaking a budget. With sleek laptop-like styling and available in a wide range of fun, fashionable colors, the set is not only efficient, but trendsetting as well.

“Our 19-inch digital portable Eviant TV will be feature packed,” remarked Jerry Galya, Eviant Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Plus, its six fashion colors will allow consumers to express their personal style or coordinate their TVs with the décor of any room. It is perfect for anyone wanting a larger portable TV.”

Switch to Digital TV

Eviant is introducing digital portable televisions in response to the switch from analog signal to digital. Beginning February 17, 2009, the analog portable and small television sets that consumers have enjoyed for decades will cease operation, unless they are hooked-up to a bulky digital TV converter box.

This will cause problems anywhere space is limited as well as force people to carry a digital TV tuner along with the set. In many cases, converter boxes are larger than the TV itself, defeating their portable, take-anywhere nature.

The innovative and affordable ‘The Sheet’ digital series from Eviant, including this 19-inch set, eliminates that problem. It picks up free digital channels with no need for additional hardware or subscription services. Or if a consumer wishes, he or she can hook it up to an existing subscription service.

Features

The unit’s 16:9 TFT LCD color display, 16.7-million colors, 5ms response time, and high contrast ratio of 850:1 assure viewers of a bright, crystal-clear picture. It comes with a full set of input and output connections, including ATSC/NTSC tuner, HDMI, S-video, VGA and composite video inputs, audio output and a headphone jack for private use.

Other features include 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i digital compatibility. It also comes with progressive scan, scaling, 3D comb filter, preprogrammed picture control, automatic format conversion, multilingual on-screen menus and picture adjustment.

It will be available in glossy black, red, pink, green, blue and white. Built-in stereo speakers, a slim design and included AC adapter, remote control and protective carrying pouch ensure that the unit is ready to pick up and go at any time.
Pricing and Availability

‘The Sheet’ 19-inch digital portable TV from Eviant will be available in Q1 2009 at department stores, drugstores and a variety of other nationwide retailers. It will carry as estimated street price of $299.99.

Eviant at 2009 International CES

Eviant will be introducing its new line of affordable, high-tech portable and home entertainment products at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES).The show takes place January 8-11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. Eviant products will be showcased in South Hall 2 at Booth 25553. Visit the booth and experience firsthand the next generation of home entertainment products.

We at Best TV know there is plenty of speculation regarding to the technology of plasma TVs, some true and some false. Here are a few of the most common mistakes about plasmas:

1) Plasma TVs Do Not Last Long

This is an extremely common plasma TV myth. When comparing plasma to LCD technology, they are pretty much dead even. Plasmas currently have an average lifespan of around 60,000 hours (give or take a few thousand). If you were to watch 4 hours of TV a day, the display should theoretically last over 40 years, on a medium contrast setting.

TIP: when your TV is shipped to the store or to you, it is usually set at a very high contrast level (for the showroom). So when you open your baby up and take it out, be sure to navigate to the menu and turn down the contrast ratio.

2) Plasmas Are Expensive

In some cases, such as the largest, highest resolution top-end models. Fortunately, technology has allowed the price of plasmas to dramatically lower in the past 10 years. Plasma TVs have comparable costs to LCDs, and as the screen size increases the price is actually sometimes lower than an LCD with the same screen size.

3) Plasma TVs Give Off Harmful Radiation

Best TV laughs at this claim, this is about as far off as you can get. The only trace of detectable radiation can be found up to an inch away from the screen. CRTs (the most common household TV) give off a significantly higher amount of radiation. The pixels are individually illuminated, so the radiation is kept within the specific pixel. Plasma and CRTs should pose no threat to your health – they comply with the FDA guidelines for radiation emission.

4) The Higher Resolution, the Better the Picture

Save your money. The only reason you would want to spend extra money on a TV with 1080p resolution (top-end) would be to watch Blu Ray movies or play Blu Ray games. Watching regular TV on a 1080p TV looks no different than a 720p or even a 420p (TV is generally broadcast in 420). Also, most movies are made for 720p resolution or lower.

5) Plasma TVs Leak Gas

Modern Plasma TVs in no way, shape, or form leak gas, or need to be refilled. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard that in my life. The TV’s pixels are permanently enclosed in sealed glass cells, and are filled with a harmless gas mixture. There is no way for the gas to escape, meaning it cannot leak out and does not need to be refilled by any means.

LG SL80 series and SL90
The LG SL80 series and SL90 series feature the new picture technology and energy saving technology that has an intelligent light sensor that adjusts the TV’s picture, brightness and contrast according to the surrounding light conditions automatically.

Both the LG SL80 series and SL90 series come with a full HD 1080 resolution unit.

The LG SL80 series comprises the conventional CCFL backlight but uses the TruMotion 240Hz processing that improves the motion picture response time and has a dynamic contrast of 150000:1.

It has a mechanical on/off switch to save the standby power consumed and complies with the Energy Start 3.0 ratings. The LG SL80 series and SL90 HDTV series measure just under 1.8 inches in its width.

LG SL90 HDTV photo

The LG SL90 series features new LED backlighting which makes it look slimmer, is less than 1.15 inches wide, and has better contrast ratio than the SL80 series.

The superiority of the LED technology allows the series to achieve a mega contrast ratio of 300000:1. The LG SL90 is also equipped with TrueMotion but has a processing unit of 120Hz.

“Consumers are looking for stylish technology that fits seamlessly into their existing home equipment, without sacrificing the advanced technology they are grown accustomed to,” said Peter Reiner, senior vice president, marketing and strategy, LG Electronics, USA, INC.

“With the SL80 and SL90 LG has combined the best of design and display technology-transforming the home entertainment from something ordinaryto something better,” he added.

The LG SL80 series will be available in the market from August 2009. As for the price, the 42-, 47-, and 55-inch screen sizes of the LG SL80 will carry a price tag of USD$1,599, $1,899 and $2,799 respectively.

The LG SL90 will be launched later in 2009, in 42 and 47 inch screen sizes. The price of these models have yet to be disclosed.
